Increasing complexity with unfailing reliability

The business concept for Automodular Corporation was hatched over twenty years ago when General Motors ran out of room at one of their plants and outsourced the assembly of some basic components. They found that by outsourcing they not only saved space, they reduced their costs and simplified their operations overall.

The rationale for outsourcing has become more compelling over the years. Vehicles are becoming progressively more complex and it is a logistical challenge for the OEM to assemble the many thousand components. The physical act of transporting in the parts and moving them in and out of holding areas to the point of assembly is in itself difficult. Even a small glitch can cause an entire production line to shutdown.

Since the early days, Automodular Corporation has taken on more and more complex assembly tasks. Now Automodular Corporation manufactures complex sub-assemblies such as cockpits, suspension units and powerpacks.

In 2003 Automodular Corporation completed the acquisition of Tec-Mar Distribution Services Inc. (“Tec-Mar”), a supplier of sequencing and sub-assembly services based in Michigan. Some of its operations were in older factories and were of low added value and have now been closed. The remaining operations are integral to Automodular’s performance and enable the company to pursue new contracts on both sides of the border.

Automodular Corporation has earned a reputation for the sophistication of its operations and unfailing reliability.
